Description
Designing Your New Career
You have moved past “basic” career matching and are viewing your career through a broader lens.
This six-session package is built on the principles from Designing Your Life (DYL), the New York Times best-selling book and methodology that Bill Burnett and Dave Evans developed, and is taught in a class of the same name at Stanford University (I am a licensed DYL Coach).
The five mindsets you are going to learn in order to design your career are curiosity, bias to action, reframing, awareness, and radical collaboration. A well-designed career is generative—it is constantly creative, productive, changing, evolving, and there is always the possibility of surprise.
This program emphasises a human-centred design approach, encouraging experimentation, prototyping, and learning from experiences, to inform action planning.Â
The structure of this package includes 6 x 60-minute sessions:
- Â Discovery session to identify goals, desires, and sometimes problems to solve
- Skills, strengths, and unique attributes – we’ll identify the best parts of you to build a career or transition upon
- Opportunity analysis – finding what’s out there
- Career Design and Planning
- Â Building your career change or transition assets – rebuilding your resume for a new career or industry, and an approach to applying for new roles
- Bringing it all together, review and revise if needed
Additional inclusions and tools
- The Designing Your Life workbook
- Morrisby Career Profile (optional – some people don’t like spending the time to do the assessments, but it’s included if you want it)
- Kanban-style dashboard to keep you on track, as you progress
- Additional email support and a 20% discount on all future career support sessions for life.
Between each session, independent reflection tasks are likely to be required.
I try to keep these to a minimum and do as much in-person, active work as possible; however, there is no avoiding some independent thinking and research.
